Jang Seung-jo Opens Up About Extreme Stress While Playing Abusive Husband in Netflix Drama
Actor Jang Seung-jo has revealed the intense psychological toll he experienced while portraying a violent husband in the upcoming Netflix series "You Killed Me."
During a press conference held on November 5th at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul, the cast and crew gathered to discuss the highly anticipated drama. Director Lee Jung-rim joined actors Jeon So-nee, Lee Yu-mi, Jang Seung-jo, and Lee Moo-saeng for the event.
The Challenge of Playing Two Distinct Characters
Jang Seung-jo takes on the demanding task of playing dual roles in the series. He described his first character, Jin-pyo, as "a violent individual who puts his wife Hee-soo through a hellish marriage," while his second character, Jang-gang, is "a pure young man working under CEO Jin So-baek."
The actor explained his approach to differentiating the two characters: "I tried to make everything different externally - from hairstyle to posture, voice, and even the way they laugh. The script was so well-written that I prepared faithfully according to it."
Physical Manifestations of Emotional Stress
Jang opened up about the burden of portraying the abusive Jin-pyo character. "When I read the script, my smartwatch stress index continuously showed numbers close to 100," he confessed. "Every time I look at Jin-pyo, my stress reaches extreme levels."
Director Lee Jung-rim shared her reasoning behind casting Jang in the dual role: "He has two faces. When he plays a villain, he naturally glares at people, but in real life, he's family-oriented and a good father. I thought that aspect matched with Jang-gang."
